Descriptions
Pembrey Country Park is owned and managed by Carmarthenshire County Council. It covers some 220 hectares and includes significant areas of non-native Corsican pine. As a Country Park, one of the key objectives is to offer the visitor a range of amenities and experiences in a diverse, interesting and pleasant environment. Another key function is the conservation and enhancement of the site’s biodiversity.The Corsican Pine is to be thinned to improve the structure of the wood whilst undertaking woodland management will enhance biodiversity within the woodlands The health of the woodland will be improved – thinning of Corsican pine will encourage native broadleaved regeneration and ponds within the woodland will be opened up allowing more light to the pond and its surroundings. Archaeological remains will be safeguarded by removing trees which may cause damage to these structures. Natural dune rejuvenation processes can be re-established by opening out small areas of the dunes towards the seaward end.It is proposed that the thinning programme will continue for a period of around 5 – 10 years. Tenders will be sought each year. A felling licence for thinning an area of 18.20 Ha has been obtained by the Council to start in January 2017. The thinning work is to be completed between 09/01/17 – 28/02/18.Dates – deadline for submissions and start dateThe deadline for submissions is 12noon, 25th November 2016.
