The installation of a 96m length of “Salix Rock Rolls” along the eastern bank of the Sirhowy River immediately downstream of the B4254 River Bridge. Preparation of the edge of the river bed to receive the rock rolls. Driving of 0.6m long chestnut posts at 0.5m centres in front of the rock roll pyramid and at 1.0m centres behind the rock roll pyramid. Lifting of the Rock Rolls into position to form a pyramid behind the pre-installed chestnut posts and lacing together the ends of the Rock Rolls using 3mm fixing twine to form one continues line of netted rocks, where water levels permit (if water level is too deep use cable ties to fix rock roll ends together. Backfill behind the rock roll pyramid with suitable earth fill material (Class 6N)to create a 30º slope (1:1.732). Supply and secure Vmax C350 Turf Reinforcement mat to surface of the 30º slope behind the rock roll pyramid. The rock rolls are to be secured to the fixing posts with polypropylene cord over the rock roll with a figure of 8 from front to back post. Where there is only a front post, secure the rock roll by threading a cable-tie through the net and around the post. Where required surrounding existing trees are to be “clear stemmed” to allow natural light Into the understory.Access for tracked excavator into the river can be gained from the lane off Maes Yr Afon shown on site location plan drawing number SO761-002. The Contractor is to include for the reinstatement of the river access upon completion of the works.
