Shetland Islands Council, as a Local Government Pension Scheme Administering Authority, provides pension services to over 5,600 current and former employees of Shetland Islands Council and 19 external organisations participating in the Fund. As at 31.3.2013 the Pension Fund was valued at 306 million GBP. Pension management includes retaining calculations, documents and respective protections in respect of members covered by earlier legislation, e.g. pre/post 1998 Scheme, Pre/Post 2008 Scheme, whilst simultaneously introducing the Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) Scheme from 2015 onwards.
