The Council have identified an opportunity for a third party to invest, develop and operate a 6MVA ‘Exemplar’ Data Centre (together with ancillary office accommodation) and connect the heat generated from the Data Centre to a proposed local Heat Network within the Silicon Sands site at Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone. The initial phase is to deliver an “Exemplar” Data Centre ("EDC"), which is intended to show that highly-energy efficient data centres can be operated with minimal environmental impact. To that end, 1.3 acres of land has been made immediately available in the Enterprise Zone for development in phase 1 with significantly more being prepared for future phases.
