Descriptions

The Bay Road Bridge forms part of the North West Greenway Network project. A project which is funded by INTERREG VA, administered by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) to develop a network of 46.5km of greenway, walking and cycling routes in the North West region by December 2023. The structure will be operated and maintained by Derry City and Strabane District Council. More information on the project can be found at www.nwgreenway.com. The Contract is for the design and build of a single clear span bridge, circa 63m long, with an effective pedestrian / cycle width of 3m wide. The works also include but not limited to design and build of abutments, retention structures and access ramps which will link the existing Quay Trail to the new proposed greenway running along Bay Road. The site is located adjacent to the River Foyle, which is part of the River Foyle and Tributaries Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The Works Contract associated to ensure satisfactory completion of the bridge and associated structural elements shall be a NEC 4 ECC Design and Build Contract. A Technical Design Approvals process, aligned to DMRB CG300 - Technical Approval of Highway Structures shall be required, and the Contractor shall be required to prepare and submit an ‘Approval in Principle’ document outlining his technical design for the structures to the Client and their professional advisors for review and endorsement.
