Pointing to front elevations of six terraced properties
Descriptions
Contract description•The removal of existing pointing to the front elevation of four terraced houses•Re-point mortar joints•Temporarily take off rain water down pipes and reinstate after pointing is completeAll the front elevation brickwork is constructed in an orange/ red, dense and uniformly proportioned brick. It is most likely that the brick comes from the Ruabon area and known as “Ruabon Reds” (RR). The walls are solid brickwork 1B thick (225mm) using English garden wall bond (one row of headers and 5 rows of stretchers). The thin mortar joints were probably originally coloured with a red pigment; this was a popular fashion at the time. The aim for re-pointing is to achieve a uniform finish to the pointing using a red pigment in the mortar that will enhance the front elevations of the four properties. It is important that the correct methods to remove the existing mortar are used for this process due to the thin mortar joints.
