The purpose of the Flying Start Programme is to:1.1 Support families to give children the best start in life1.2 To offer improved child development opportunities through high quality childcare, additional health support, and parenting support programmes, including Language and Play, Parent Nurturing Programme, Incredible Years Toddler programme1.3 To improve engagement of families with Flying Start opportunities by offering services based within Flying Start communities1.4 Parents and carers with children aged under 4 years who live in the postcodes of the identified Flying Start catchment areas within Caerphilly County Borough will be eligible to access the Flying Start programme 1.5 Parents and carers eligible will be able to access universal parenting groups, parenting programmes as well as individual family support to initiate engagement, dependant on their family needs, delivered through the Flying Start programmeThe service aims to deliver parent and toddler groups (called Pop in and play) that will engage families, support child development particularly communication and language, as well as deliver the week-by-week PEEP programme on which the Language and Play programme is based. Once a year in each group the 6-week LAP programme will be delivered. The Pop in and play sessions will be delivered locally in each Flying Start area a minimum of once a week (minimum 10 sessions per week). The focus is realistic child development, parent/carer child bonding and relationship development, language and communication, social interaction of peers and building self-esteem through play opportunities. The groups also aim to support parents to develop their own group, which will be self-sustaining, and evolve into a consultation group. The sessions will be 2 hours and enable parents to meet other parents locally as well as use resources that will allow parents to repeat activities in the home. Pop in and play sessions will act as an engagement tool for parents / carers into parenting programmes as well as childcare once their child is old enough.
