Network Rail Infrastructure Limited is using an alliance contracting arrangement to procure the programme of works relating to power supply upgrades and electrification to the UK railway infrastructure network. The works comprised 2 stage of power supply upgrade along the East Coast Mainline, stage 1 Wood Green to Bawtry and stage 2 Bawtry to Edinburgh and also the electrification of the Transpennine Route (Stalybridge to Colton junction, Hambleton junctions and Selby and branches to Middlesbrough, Scarborough, Hull and Cleethorpes). The contract was awarded on 1.10.2014 to an alliance comprising VolkerFitzpatrick Rail Limited, Siemens PLC and J Murphy & Sons Limited and the estimated total value of the alliance contract awarded is between 500 000 000 GBP and 800 000 000 GBP.
