Procurement of main contractor for the design and build of Newcastle College Gateway Centre in Newca

NCG is seeking to deliver a major new facility to add to its portfolio in the North East of England. A new Gateway Centre for Newcastle College is proposed on land adjacent the Newcastle College campus, near Westmorland Road in the centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The Gateway Centre will include accommodation such as a Library, LSS, Student services, International, Apprentice Gateway, Employment Gateway, Students Union, Commercial Services and data centre. The Gateway Centre shall achieve a minimum BREEAM rating of Very Good.NCG has procured a Project Manager and multi-disciplinary design team and now intends to procure a main contractor via a Two Stage design and build tender process to finalise the design from RIBA Stage 4 onwards and construct the Gateway Centre. NCG propose the development would be carried out under an appropriate design and build contract (e.g. bespoke form of JCT Design and Build 2011) and intends to novate members of its multi-disciplinary design team to the main contractor to complete the design.The main contractor may also be responsible for demolition of existing building and site clearance.
