Descriptions

The University wishes to appoint a Supplier or Suppliers to supply a programmable high-power AC grid connected energy storage system which includes an electrochemical battery bank. The equipment will be located at the University of Manchester and be part of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The equipment will form part of a suite of facilities for research into electrochemical storage devices, system architectures and control methods. In particular the equipment is to be used to examine control methods for both the AC grid and the battery system. Funding for the equipment is through the EPSRC initiative on capital equipment for grid scale energy storage, and forms part of the government's strategic investment in the ‘great technologies' that have the potential to provide a foundation for future growth and prosperity. This therefore represents an excellent opportunity for the successful supplier to be associated with a high profile research activity, including the possibility of establishing an on-going research relationship with the University in this area.
