Programme To Provide Outreach In To FE And HE Institutions For Technium Pembrokeshire

Descriptions

Technium Pembrokeshire has been successfully recruiting members to its office and hot desk facilities through local recruitment and through successful interaction with inward investors. To increase the number of clients and hence potential long term businesses being introduced to the Technium and ultimately the Welsh Economy, it has been decided that one of the initiatives to be used will be a marketing initiative to recruit start up businesses in the technology and knowledge based sectors from the HE institutions and FE colleges of South Wales and possibly in the wider HE/FE Community.Evidence suggests that many current HE students born in Pembrokeshire choose to study in Welsh Universities, but would like to return to Pembrokeshire to work. In 2008, 1600 students from Pembrokeshire were studying in a University and of those 1090 were studying in a Welsh University (Walesstats.gov). In addition some other students from HE and FE will be attracted to the Pembrokeshire life style if there were opportunities for them in the area. Amongst these groups will be people with the potential to start up businesses and others who are in the process of starting a business. This marketing initiative seeks to develop long term relationships with the HE and FE institutions of South Wales and their students and through a business development support programme to encourage potential entrepreneurs within these institutions to engage with Technium Pembrokeshire to bring their business into the Technium environment. This may start by using hot desks and develop a business to progress to full tenancy in their own Business Incubation Unit within the Technium. All FE and HE institutions are obliged to provide forms of enterprise education to meet the needs of their students and this initiative would both complement and enhance this work through a collaborative approach. In FE, enterprise is a central part of the Welsh Baccalaureate and in HE enterprise is a central part of every University 3rd mission.
