Provision of a Feasibility Study on the Design of Swansea University’s Innovation Factory Building

Swansea University’s Bay Campus is being delivered on St. Modwen’s 65 acre former BP Transit site in Neath Port Talbot on the eastern approach into Swansea. The Campus will provide academic, student accommodation and research space. Whilst development work will continue up until 2020, the majority of the works will be completed during this first phase of construction and open for the first intake of students in September 2015.The Engineering buildings currently under construction on the Bay Campus were designed to meet the space need for the College with some limited additional growth in teaching and research activities.As part of the next stage of development of the Bay Campus, the College of Engineering at Swansea University keen to develop approximately 15000sqm of innovation space. The first phase of this development is approximately a 5000sqm, facility called The Innovation Factory. The University is seeking partners to assist with a Feasibility Study of this new facility. The design of the building must be aligned with the architectural design ethos of the Bay Campus. It is the University’s aspiration that this building conforms to BREEAM Outstanding. This building will house applied research labs, specialist labs, knowledge transfer auditoriums for postgraduate training, innovation, demonstration and future proofing spaces, space for co-location of companies and collaborating partners, exhibition space, offices and meeting rooms and a digital fabrication laboratory.The Feasibility Study must include renders, elevations and sections in addition to a 3d fly-through of the new building. The Study must also include outline proposals for site landscape, co-habitation with the remaining innovation space on the plot and preliminary costs.This tender process will consider the experience and proposals offered by interested parties towards appointing a contractor whom will work with the University to deliver the feasibility study for the Innovation Factory.NOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
