Provision of a "Fleet in Action" Film for Scapa Flow Museum
Descriptions
The account of the operations carried out by the Royal Navy, beyond their base at Scapa Flow, is not particularly well represented by the museum collection, yet it is important that visitors can connect the story of the anchorage to well-known actions and events which were highly significant to the course of both world wars. The inclusion of the ‘Fleet in Action’ audio visual exhibit will add greatly to the effectiveness and variety of the interpretation across the new museum. The use of powerful and evocative imagery and sound, within the distinctive environment of the historic pumphouse, will create an experience which can be both emotionally charged, informative and though-provoking. - The key stories to be covered are: - The Battle of Jutland, 1916; - The Northern Patrol, 1914-17; - The Norway Campaign, 1940; - Battle of the Denmark Strait and the destruction of the Bismarck, 1941; - Arctic Convoys, 1941-45; - Battle of the North Cape; and - D-Day, 1944. Because of the multitude of actions and events to be covered, a single continuous narrative may be unrealistic in terms of a required duration of 6-8 minutes. A level of selection by visitors could therefore be considered, using a main home screen/menu.
