Provision of a Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Recruitment (WBMDR) Primary Collection Centre

The WBMDR is required to have a contract with each Collection centre (considered by the UK Regulatory body as a ‘Third Party Agreement’).A Bone Marrow Collection Centre (BMC) is a medical facility at which bone marrow collection from selected WBMDR donors takes place.The Apheresis Collection Centre (ACC) is the facility at which blood mononuclear cells (e.g. G-CSF stimulated blood stem cells or unstimulated peripheral blood lymphocytes) from selected WBMDR donors are collected by automated apheresisTo meet the requirement for the WBMDR Primary Collection Centre the Service provider shall be required to:1)Provide the services of both a BMC and an ACC.2)Be an approved NMDP CC (Bone marrow) and ACC (apheresis)3)Be registered for the provision of PBSC with the US Food & Drug Agency (FDA)Separate specifications are available for suppliers to submit applications to become a WBMDR BMC or WBMDR ACC , however the designated WBMDR Primary Collection Centre must meet additional criteria.Due to the nature of the service required, the WBS will not commit to either a minimum or maximum level of activity, although it is anticipated that normal activity would be around 50 – 60 collections annually.The contract will be awarded in January 2015 and it is hoped to commence the contract from April 2015.Compliance with current UK regulatory, WMDA and FDA requirements is Mandatory.
