Provision of architectural services for the design of new build homes
Descriptions
Cardiff Council (the client) is committed to building 1,000 new homes in the next 5 years with an aspiration for a further 1,000 thereafter. We are passionate about reinvigorating council house building, avoiding generic housing estate architecture, by delivering modern high quality homes that are affordable, adaptable and respond positively to the demands of the 21st century for low impact, low energy development. All our new developments must comply to Welsh Government Development Quality Requirements (DQR), which include compliance with RNIB housing sight standards and Lifetime Homes. But we also want to achieve innovation in layout and design by building above DQR space standards to improve circulation space, living space and storage space and reflecting where relevant Cardiff Council’s design principles set out in the Design Standard for The Cardiff Housing Partnership Programme (pages 30-35 and accompanying this Tender) and the Residential Design Guide Supplementary Planning Guidance. This Contract was for the appointment to provide Architectural Services to the Council as detailed in the Specification contained in Schedule 1 of the Invitation to Tender. To help us deliver our new build commitment we are seeking to appoint an ambitious architect practice that shares our enthusiasm for high quality public housing and place making.
