The successful tenderer will be required to provide catering services at The Community College Whitstable.The College is a co-educational state school for 793 students, between the ages of 11 and 18, of which 135 are in the sixth form. There are also 103 teaching and support staff at the College who pay for their own meals (should they choose to have a meal). Catering is currently outsourced and is provided through a central kitchen (refurbished in 2010), servery and dining room.Students and staff pay for morning break and lunch services with cashless payment cards and there is also limited vending provision. Annual income, including cashless and vending sales and free school meals is currently around 135 000 GBP, with 116 students are entitled to a free school meal. Overall uptake as a percentage of student population is believed to be around 40 % and the College is determined to increase the number of students eating at lunchtime. Achievement of this goal will be a key requirement of the successful bidder.The College is undertaking a comprehensive survey of student and staff opinions about the catering service and the findings will inform the specification requirements released to shortlisted contractors.
