Provision of Construction Skills Courses for Unemployed Young People

Wrexham County Borough Council is seeking to appoint an organisation to provide a service of Construction Skills courses for unemployed young people (aged 16-18) with barriers to employment.This Service will be offered to participants who are engaged on a Traineeship Programme with Wrexham itec and who have a particular interest in this vocational area.The aim of the Service is to help address barriers to work for those who are either unemployed or economically inactive through the provision of Construction Skills taster courses. The Service must provide structured, relevant and supported practical sessions in order to give participants new skills, increased confidence and work experience that will enable them to become economically active and progress into further learning at a higher level, or employment.Traineeship is a non-employed status training programme for 16-19 year olds, not otherwise engaged in post -16 education or employment. Learners will be referred via Careers Wales to Wrexham itec for the Traineeship programme.The primary objective of Traineeship is to equip young people with the skills, qualifications and experience to enable them to progress at the earliest opportunity to either learning at a higher level, or employment. Only learners who have expressed an interest in a Construction vocation will be offered Construction taster courses with the successful organisation.The Traineeship course runs for 6 hrs x 3 days per week over a 12 week period including; literacy, numeracy, CV writing and employability skills.
