The Fluorescent in-situ hybridisation (FISH) laboratory in the Histopathology Department at St. James’s Hospital has provided a hospital and national service since the 2010. The service is staffed by two medical scientists. Currently the service offers the following assays for diagnostics and predictive testing: •Her2 gene amplification found in Breast/Gastric/Colorectal Cancer•Gene rearrangement /translocations found in Lymphomas•Alk and ROS1 gene rearrangement found in NSCLCThe Fluorescent in-situ hybridisation (FISH) technique is performed as a semi-automated assay, on formalin fixed paraffin embedded material.Future DevelopmentPossible introduction of additional esoteric FISH testing for Lymphoma nationally•DUSP22, TP63 rearrangements •11q aberration.Possible development of Myeloma FISH service.
