Provision of Flying Start Book Bags – 2017/18

The aim of this contract is to provide Flying Start teams in each Local Authority in Wales with a supply of Flying Start Book Bags which will be distributed to every 2 year old in their Flying Start areas. 10,000 Book Bags will be distributed across Wales in 2017-18 and each bag will include a one English and one Welsh book, and A4 scribble pad and a set of crayons.As part of the support for Speech Language and Communication programmes, Flying Start children in Wales are provided with a Flying Start Book Bag when they reach the age of 2. It complements the universal BookStart Book Bags which are provided to all children in Wales at the age of 9 months and 18 months. The provision of an additional Book Bag for Flying Start children at the age of 2 provides a valuable engagement opportunity for Flying Start health professionals to have a useful dialogue with parents on the importance of sharing and reading books with children to improve their language development.
