Provision of Gas Storage Cupboards

Descriptions

Swansea University wishes to invite tenders for the supply of Asecos G-Line Ultimate 90 Gas Cabinets or equivalent to the College of Engineering at the new Swansea University Bay Campus. This tender is for the supply and install of such cabinets. Full details of cabinet quantity required can be found in the tender documents. The University requires all offices, laboratories, workshops and other workplaces to be suitable for the work activities that take place in them so as to protect the health and safety of staff students and others who work there. All operations which involve a risk of injury or harm should be avoided as far as is reasonably possible and all work and activities in departments/divisions will be expected to comply with Statutory and other relevant Codes. The University has a number of objectives set out within its operational policies, and In order to achieve these objectives, all point of use cylinders will be stored in local gas cabinets, and piped to the point of use. These operational policies aim to:- Meet DSEAR regulations for the provision of gases within laboratories- Ensure that risks are reduced with regard to storage, use and transportation of compressed gases.- Ensure stored gas cylinders are securely fixed, away from pedestrian traffic routes and emergency escape routes.- Ensure that manual handling issues are addressed where movement of cylinders is involved.- Ensure that all staff using compressed gases are informed and trained in the hazards and control measures developed to minimise risks.- Ensure the workplace equipment is constructed, maintained and tested to ensure they are in efficient working order and good repair.During the construction of the Bay Campus a number of cabinets were supplied by the Developer under the main contract. To assist in the delivery of the policy guidance the University seeks to procure further units identical to those previously installed to mitigate against any risks of having multiple units requiring different long term maintenance, operational or cleaning requirements. The Specification standards are listed in the attachments. The University is willing to consider equivalent product which meets the Specification. The key consideration for any equivalent proposed is that the installation mechanism and servicing regime is identical to that of the incumbent gas cabinets. Any tenderer who proposes equivalent product for consideration must include comprehensive evidence with the tender to confirm these requirements.NOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
