The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) runs the world's first tidal generation testing centre on the island of Eday in the Orkney Islands. EMEC has a 4MW connection to the electricity grid for exporting power. However, this capacity is likely to be exceeded with planned business expansion.EMEC has conducted several studies which demonstrate that a hydrogen electrolyser is a suitable mechanism for absorbing excess power generated.
