Provision of Hydrogen Electrolyser for use at Tidal Test Site.

Descriptions

The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) runs the world's first tidal generation testing centre on the island of Eday in the Orkney Islands. EMEC has a 4 MW connection to the electricity grid for exporting power. However, this capacity is likely to be exceeded with planned business expansion.EMEC has conducted several studies which demonstrate that a hydrogen electrolyser is a suitable mechanism for absorbing excess power generated. This Schedule describes the equipment required to generate, compress and store the hydrogen, and to use some of the compressed gas to power critical EMEC systems via a fuel cell. The core system required by EMEC comprises four main components:— an electrolyser,— hydrogen compression equipment,— gas storage,— (optional) fuel cell for site back-up power — to be costed separately.
