Provision of Telecare Services to Newport City Council

Newport City Council is Wales 3rd largest city with a population of 145,700. Newport was the host city for the 2010 Ryder Cup and 2014 NATO summit.In line with the Social Care and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 the Council are committed to empowering citizens in Newport to live as independently as possible and key to this is the Council's Telecare service.Over the past 5 years demand for social care services has increased and this trend is set to continue as the population continues to grow. Citizens are living longer but not always in good health, which increases the pressure on social care services. The Council will not be able to respond to this increasing need without a significant shift in the way services are delivered especially through telecare assistive technologies.To meet these challenges we are looking to develop our Telecare service to ensure that we continue to promote and maintain citizens independence and well-being.We currently commission 2 providers to deliver Telecare services to over 600 people, and we are seeking to re tender these services which comes to an end in December 2016.
