Caerphilly CBC wish to appoint an artist(s) to deliver the following two projects for Bargoed and Newbridge to ensure art forms are fully integrated into the public realm. Therefore, the above contract will be offered in two lots and artists are invited to tender for one or both of these Lots.Lot 1 - BargoedContext - Funding has been secured from European ERDF and WAG for a multi million pound regeneration project for bargoed town centre. In addition, the Council has secured £150,000 from European ERDF sources for implementation of an artwork strategy for Bargoed.The Project - The Council wishes to appoint an artist to develop and install a variety of imaginative pieces of public artwork within the town centre. The artist will be expected to work with the local community in order to develop proposals. A number of opportunities exist for the introduction of Public Artwork within the town including street furniture, entrance fllorscapes, stone cut lettering in the floorscapes developed through a community literature project, a viewpoint sculpture and an architectural glass project.The site - Bargoed is located in the north of Caerphilly CBC within the upper Rhymney Valley. it is the largest district town centre within the valley serving the surrounding communities of Aberbargoed, Gilfach and Pengam. Bargoed has seen substantial investment in recent years with a £14m land reclamation scheme helping to create a landform for a relief road and new retail development. The artist will be expected to work with the design team set up to deliver the bargoed town centre regeneration project to ensure art forms are fully integrated into the public realm.Budget - The budget for this project including collaboration, planning applications, concept & detailed design, foundations, fabrication and installation is £150,000 (ex VAT). Lot 2 - NewbridgeThe Project - Newbridge town centre is entering into a dynamic future thanks to a range of schemes helping to transform the local environment. European ERDF Convergence, Welsh Assembly Government and Arts Council of Wales monies have been secured to embark on a muli-million town centre urban renewal project.The appointed artist will be expected to work with the 'Design Team' set up to deliver the Newbridge town centre Public Realm Enhancements to ensure art forms are fully integrated into the public realm.The site - Newbridge is a key settlement located in the South East region of the County Borough. The town centre is an important local economic, social and environmental resource that services the immediate residents of Newbridge and the surrounding communities of Pantside, Pentwynmawr, Trinant and Abercarn.Budget/Timeframe - The budget for this commission including collaboration, concept designs, detail engineering designs, structural calcs, foundations, fabrication and installation is £125,000 (ex VAT). The project must be completed by December 2013.
