Public Artworks for Pontypridd Town Centre Regeneration

Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC has recently commenced a £10.5mn programme of regeneration activity in Pontypridd town centre, which is located in the South East Wales Valleys. Regeneration activity in Pontypridd will transform public spaces through upgrading the public realm, ensure diversity and distinctiveness through the introduction of high quality materials and bespoke features, and strengthen the commercial core of town centres through investing in the townscape. The principal component of the regeneration activity is transformation of the town’s public realm, with public artworks prominence in the public realm set to enhance the town’s identity and distinctiveness. A diverse range of public artworks are proposed to complement and enhance the public realm, with the varied and large scale nature of the proposals resulting in the division of requirements into five lots, with a public artist anticipated to take responsibility for each lot. The Council is therefore looking to procure the services of a number of public artists: initially to prepare design concepts, before undertaking detailed designs, and then fabricating and installing public artworks. The appointed public artists will be suitably experienced in successfully delivered artworks of a similar nature and scale, capable of working within constrained budgets and timescales, effective in community collaboration and engagement, and capable of working efficiently as part of a wider project team containing engineers and urban designers.There are five lots available and public artists are allowed to bid for single or multiple lots.The five lots that are to be commissioned are as follows:Lot 1: Sculptural seating - anticipated budget - £80,000Lot 2: Bespoke railings and gateways - anticipated budget - £40,000Lot 3: Inscription of poetry and song in the paving - anticipated budget - £60,000Lot 4: Mill Square, integration of artwork in focal public realm area - anticipated budget - £150,000 Lot 5: Artistic lighting - anticipated budget - £113,500 For more information, please see the Tender Document available by registering on the Alito e-tender system http://appswales.alito.co.uk/
