Awarded

Purchase of Acoustic Broadband System.

Descriptions

Tenders are invited by Marine Scotland Science to supply a Broadband Acoustic System. The system will use wide band acoustic data to identify marine species including fish and plankton. The technique for identification will utilise the large number of frequencies available to produce unique frequency response graphs for different species. Where species are identified additional information on individual size can then also be extracted. Initially the system will be used in the Scottish mackerel fishery where size estimation is important to avoid slippage of undersized fish. In order to fully utilize the high frequency capability of the system the tow body will be deployed to position the acoustic system in the water column close to aggregations. The equipment will be operated by scientific staff from Marine Scotland, Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen.
