RBGE Herbarium Cabinets
Descriptions
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) has a need for the supply and installation of Herbarium cabinets. The cabinets should conform to the dimensions and design detailed in Appendix A of this Invitation to Tender. Each cabinet should contain 12 shelf spaces (6 x 2) with each shelf capable of supporting the weight of specimens of 12 kg. Each cabinet should be constructed of component parts, including handles, hinges, door seals, to allow for the repair or replacement of parts. The cabinets should have a life expectancy of 50-75 years. The usage profile of the cabinets includes: Use of cabinets will be highly variable with some cabinets holding specimens that are part of current research programmes. Average frequency of opening = 10 times per year (min = 1, max = c. 50). Cabinet doors will often be opened to extract or replace specimens and closed quickly, or they may be left open as the researcher or curator works on material. Metal trolleys are used in the Herbarium and these can knock against the handles, necessitating the requirement for repairable or replaceable parts.
