RDE295 - Unexploded ordnance: best practice and common understanding
Descriptions
Organise and facilitate stakeholder engagement, such as but not limited to workshops, working groups and bilateral conversations, to discuss and agree with stakeholders evidence gaps and best practice methods for clearing unexploded ordnance prior to offshore construction. The review of the Government's joint position statement and recent licence application experience has highlighted areas where further work is required to expand the knowledgebase on UXO clearance and the importance of knowledge sharing. Key to progressing this is a common understanding by all parties (e.g. EOD industry, developers, regulators and advisors) of the current situation so that consistent information is provided across applications and that more informed decisions can be made regarding the most appropriate clearance technology to be used in different situations and minimise the need to resort to high order detonation. The following topics have been identified as a starting place, to be progressed through collaboration with stakeholders. Other questions and issues may be considered pertinent by stakeholders and should be taken on board. This contract was awarded by DEFRA.
