This is a notifiable disease case at Starcross, Devon, EX6 8PE and a sensitive issue for Defra. Time restraints prevented going out to tender. Contractor was selected by the Environment Agency. Removal of 8 Sweet Chestnut (Castanea sativa) (trees numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8, 9, 10) that are infected with the fungus Cryphonectria parasitica. All the wood material including trunks, bark, branches, twigs and attached leaves are to be chipped into sealed skips and along with other woody material within Area 'A' marked on Map 2. The remaining stumps will be ground out with stump grinder and the debris treated as wood material and disposed of within the sealed skip. Tools and equipment used in the work are to be cleaned
