Reparation and Victim Services. Youth Offending Teams must ensure that there is a range of activities to allow the child/young person to make reparation for the harm they have caused. Reparation can either be:— Direct: Making amends to the specific victims of the offence.— Indirect: Making amends to the wider community.The main purposes of reparation are:— Punishment: Of the young person for their offending.— Restorative: Making amends to the victim or wider community in which the offence had occurred.— Rehabilitative: Reintegrating the young person into their community by making them face up to the harm caused, making amends for the harm and learning new skills.The aim of the service is to provide victims with a voice and empower them under restorative justice principles by allowing them the opportunity to:— participate in direct or indirect mediation.— have a say on the nature of reparation activity to be undertaken by the young person.
