The requirement relates to the inter-island ferry MV Graemsay owned by Orkney Islands Council and operated by Orkney Ferries Ltd. Built in 1996 then lengthened in 2009, the Vessel is 21.5 metres overall length and has a beam of 6.10 metres. The Vessel has an official number of 728892.The basic scope of the contract is to renew the main engines, gearboxes, controls and instruments propellers and shafts. In addition, the existing sea box coolers will be replaced with a new closed circuit cooling system. The existing tin engines are rated at 223Kw each and it is envisaged that the new power plant will develop an increase of between 15 % to 25 % of maximum power.It is anticipated that the Vessel will be released from service on 6.10.2014 for a period of no more than 6 weeks.NOTE: The authority is using PCS-Tender to carry out this procurement process.
