Aberystwyth university has recently created a new department, IBERS (Institute ofBiological, Environmental and Rural Sciences). Within this institution, there areapproximately thirty life scientists with various HPC requirements to supportbioinformatics applications, with the main focus on the analysis of next generationsequencing data.IBERS are planning to spend up to £100,000 including VAT on an HPC cluster, alongwith associated file storage, cluster management software and a small amount ofraining. Of particular interest would be the availability of nodes with high memory,flexibility of the system in terms of future hardware upgrades, and the ability to run as wide as possible range of bioinformatics software.
