Research Project in Kilwa district of Tanzania

Descriptions

Staffing costs, travel and subsistence for contributing a case study to the NAVIGATE (UK NERC) research project. The NAVIGATE project has been funded by NERC and providing this case study is one of the deliverables written into the project schedule and the justification for resources. Project Pis at Aberystwth and UEA have selected an area in Kilwa district of Tanzania as a case study for this forestry project, based on its innovative work with communities and connections to the UK through sale of wood for musical instrument manufacture. MCDI is the local NGO that has initiated and manages this work with communities. There is no other organisation that does anything similar in this location and therefore no alternative provider of this case study. Only MCDI has the history of working with the community, the previous research and monitoring data related to the initaitve and the staff with the necessary local knowledge and skills.
