Awarded
RF and Microwave Multi-physics Modelling and Characterisation Platform Software.
Descriptions
The University of Surrey, acting through its Advanced Technology Institute, has been funded to establish a highly integrated facility for the multi-physics modelling and characterization of microwave devices. Inter-operability between the characterization, modeling, and simulation environment is a critical factor for program success. The software suite must be able to:— Perform nonlinear circuit simulations including (harmonic balance, transient, envelope);— Perform system and architecture amplifier simulations (including DPD correction);— Extract nonlinear models from transistor devices; compact models of III-V devices incorporating self heating & gate and drain lag as well as nonlinear behavioural models, e.g. X-parameters;— Characterization of passive and active circuit components and have the ability to extract circuit models;— Interface with a range of vendor equipment including PNA-X, loadpull, pulsed-IV measurements, C-V meters, VNAs;— Electromagnetic (FEM, FDTD, MoM) and thermal simulations must be included in an integrated computer design environment so that nonlinear-electro-thermal circuit simulations can be performed;— The design environment must be able to support multiple devices technologies simultaneously for microwave module development. The University of Surrey has held extensive discussions with global vendors, and based on their long experience of performing simulations of this nature, the Principal Investigators responsible for delivery the program believe that the following software is the only solution that will be the overall program objectives. The software is an expansion on existing licenses within the Advanced Technology Institute and what is taught to our undergraduate and post-graduate students. It is an essential that the computer platform on which the simulation and modelling tools integrate into our established Linux-based High Performance Computing environment.
