Descriptions
The construction of a new quay for the Port of Tyne at South Shields. The development will consist of a new 125 m x 56 m wide downriver extension to Riverside Quay across the Tyne Dock Basin which is located at the entrance to the former Tyne Dock. The extension will operate as a berth for Kamsarmax and Panamax bulk carriers and will support the operation of continuous ship unloaders, mobile harbour cranes and general port traffic. The works also include the construction of a new mooring dolphin, the rebuild of the front face of the adjacent Riverside Quay over a length of 118 m complete with new crane rail, fenders, ladders and bollards, as well as the construction of a new rear crane rail within the existing suspended deck and the reconstruction of a 92 m length of the quay wall within the McNulty Yard located to the East of the Basin. The works also include a capital dredge to create a new berth pocket 260 m long by 50 m wide to a depth of 13 m CD although the quay works will all be designed to allow for a future dredge depth of 14 m CD. The dredge also includes widening the approach channel to the quay to 10 m CD over an area of 10,200 m².The form of contract that a successful bidder will enter into is the ICC (Infrastructure Conditions of Contract) Design and Construct Version August 2011 issued by the Association for Consultancy and Engineering and the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (ISBN 978-1-907660-40-5)Port of Tyne have a clear set of Employers Requirements which includes a generic specification and outline drawings which bidders will be asked to tender against.
