RSSB1924_Understanding the influence of different platform edge step / gap arrangements on boarding and alighting accidents at the platform train interface
Descriptions
The Platform Train Interface (PTI) can pose significant risks to rail users. For example, 48% of passenger fatality risk occurs at the PTI and accounts for 21% of overall passenger FWI risk. Moreover, PTI risk due to boarding and alighting accounts for 11% of overall passenger FWI risk and can also lead to associated delays and dwell times. A significant factor in boarding and alighting incidents involving a Slip, Trip or Fall or fall between the platform and the train, is the size of the step/gap. Therefore as part of the National Platform Train Interface Strategy, a work stream has been created to optimise the step/gap over the long term, with this project providing a key deliverable.
