Newport Wetlands is a National Nature Reserve (NNR) designated for the important numbers of birds, plants and insects that can be found there, many of the special species are associated with the wet grassland.The aim of the contract is to remove and retard rush growth on the NNR by cutting, baling and removing rank vegetation, mainly rush, on 63.8Ha of gripped wet grassland. Some of the re-growth will need topping later in September and October.
