Scottish Canals - Crinan West Lock Gates
Descriptions
SC have a prioritised asset management programme for the replacement of all lock gates in Scotland based on condition and risk and are now beginning a programme for the replacement of the priority gates. This package of works is focusing on the western section of the Crinan Canal, i.e. Lock Gates 9 to 13 (Dunardry Flight) and Lock Gates 14 and 15 (Crinan Basin). Most of the existing Crinan lock gates have steel main structure and hardwood timber mitre posts and heel posts. Only Lock 12 downstream (D/S) and Sea Lock 15 upstream (U/S) gates are timber. Information for all Lock Gates can be found in App A Drawings and App E Site Info of the Tender Package. The contractor will have to confirm all information provided on site during the surveys. The new Lock Gates will be steel. For details on the desired lock gate design please refer to App D Contractor’s Design Brief of the Tender Package. In order to ensure good watertight seal, the quoins will need to be lined with stainless steel liners. Also part of this package is the associated walkways, sluices, pintles and quoin liners.
