We are looking for a production company with a presence in the UK to develop The Selector in partenership with the British Council.Conceived and launched by the British Council Music Department in 2001, the Selector is an award-winning weekly 2 hour radio show showcasing the best in contemporary British music. It is cross-genre, featuring a broad range of new music that spans dance and electronic music through jazz, rock, folk and any number of emerging styles. Its aim is to present an overview of all that is exciting and fresh in UK music at any one time, and this makes for a relatively challenging and cutting edge playlist. The show does not play the big pop names many audiences might already be familiar with. In this way the show aims to present the diversity of UK society and cultural output and to strengthen the international profile of the UKs creative sector and music industry by presenting sides of it not always given profile overseas.Selector is managed by Music Advisor, Phil Catchpole, overseen by Director of Music, Cathy Graham. The programme is currently produced by Folded Wing, an external radio production company specialising in music output.Broadcast partners overseas have the option to take the show in whats known as the full version presented in English by the British DJ/host Goldierocks, or the kit version where broadcasters receive the same songs along with a script and guidance to enable the local DJ host to present the programme in the local language.Currently Selector can be heard in several countries including Mexico, Columbia, Slovakia, Bosnia, Hungary, Indonesia, China and Uganda. It is also available online through the Selector website and attracts listeners this way from all over the globe.The contract awarded will be for a period of 12 months with an additional three option periods of 12 months for annual extension under the same terms and conditions. Currently the Selector has funding secured until October 15th 2014
