Descriptions
The ground investigation will consist of cable percussive boreholes,mechanically excavated trial pits and cone penetration testing, with sampling, in-situ and laboratory testing, monitoring and reporting. The mechanically excavated trial pits shall primarily be for inspection of the shallow soils, bulk sampling and in-situ testing for geo-technical design purposes. The cone penetration testing shall proceed to refusal which is anticipated to occur upon encountering the Worcestershire Member sand and gravel stratum, however if possible identification of the underlying solid Mercia Mudstone Group is preferable.The cone penetration testing shall be undertaken in advance of the cable percussive boring which is to be undertaken adjacent, in order that any areas of particular interest identified in the CPT sounds can be targeted for sampling/insitu testing in the boreholes. Hand excavated trial holes shall be undertaken at the road verge and adjacent to existing highways structures primarily to identity the locations of the existing services and to identify the type of foundations which exist beneath the structures.
