Single Homeless Accommodation Programme (Young People)

Descriptions

The service intends to increase the capacity and options for young people, aged 18-25 and increase their offer by including specialist provision for people with complex needs. The aim of the SHAP service in Rotherham is to improve throughflow of the existing young people accommodation pathway. The intention is to free up housing options, reducing overall risk of rough sleeping and in turn reduce pressure on statutory services and repeat homelessness. The service will provide a tailored offer to young people who require youth homelessness support specialised in understanding complexity of youth homelessness and individual needs. The Service is to provide 14 units of accommodation with support for young people with complex needs. The accommodation and properties will have been sourced and managed by the service provider. The 14 units will be as follows: • 4 assessment units - which will provide a service model for young people with medium to higher support needs whose needs can be better met with onsite 24/7 support staff. Some young people need longer prior to the housing pathway being agreed, or where appropriate, time to re-establish family networks as part of prevention work. • 10 dispersed self-contained units for those with complex needs to ensure that they have access to intensive specialised trauma informed support. The service will offer a new tailored approach to ending youth homelessness in Rotherham and help to reduce the risk of refusal from other services and evictions. The service will be person-centred, and outcome focused. It will focus on young people's individual needs, goals, and aspirations that will enable them to successfully sustain their tenancies and prevent the risk of homelessness. The service will put young people at the centre of everything they do, enabling them to achieve, develop and maintain their independence and life skills. There will be an increased emphasis on health and wellbeing and promoting positive behaviours. The service will support individuals to develop resilience to enable them to cope with life challenges and fulfil their potential, accessing opportunities to enhance their skills and be supported on a pathway to employment/training.
