Natural Resources Wales (NRW) require a specialist contractor to provide a snow and ice clearance service at a number of our key properties.This service will provide treatment for the access and egress routes at our key properties so that our staff and visitors can access our premises safely.2.1De IcingThe supplier must monitor the forecasted ground temperature for each site, and provide a proactive salting service if this forecast reaches zero degree Celsius or below.This monitoring is required to prevent unnecessary servicing.Areas to be treated should be identified individually but where they are in place must include.-car parks-compounds-footpaths, including steps-access to entrances-driveways-cycling storage facilitiesThe supplier must provide full details of the salt to be used including a CoSHH assessment and details of it’s production, and sustainability.After each visit the supplier must provide the site with confirmation of the completion of the job.This must include-name and signature of the operative responsible for the job-the date and time of service was carried out-the site name and address-Any comments/photographs of service/access issues-How much salt was used2.2 Snow ClearanceThe supplier must monitor the weather forecast and provide a proactive salting service before the time of the snowfall to prevent any build up or freezing of snow.For up to 2 inches of snow, the supplier must apply a heavy application of de-icing salt to clear the specified areas and where necessary deliver a further application of de-icing salt during a second visit.In the event of heavy snowfall, the supplier must:-clear as many car park spaces as possible, all access roads and footpaths-Apply a light covering of de-icing salt so as to prevent any residual snow from forming ice.The supplier will provide an emergency snow clearance service on request.After each visit the supplier must provide the site with confirmation of the completion of the job.This must include-name and signature of the operative responsible for the job-the date and time of service was carried out-the site name and address-Any comments/photographs of service/access issues-How much salt was used2.3 Additional onsite storage of saltsThe supplier should be able to provide on site salt storage bins and supplies of salt to supplement proactive de icing services.The supplier should provide a pricing schedule for these supplies in Appendix 1.These will be ordered by sites as needed.The supplier is responsible for ensuring that all the packaging material used to deliver the salt and storage bins required to perform their duties is removed from our sites.
