South East London Teaching Partnership - Development Programmes
Descriptions
Teaching Partnerships are a new initiative funded by government to improve social work education and training. Our remit includes workforce planning and retention, raising the calibre of entrants into social work, reform of qualifying academic curriculum and improving practice learning and post qualifying training. Teaching Partnerships are seeking new, innovative and cost effective ways to modernise and improve social work education and training. Our shared ambition in the South East London Teaching Partnership is to recruit and retain a permanent capable social work workforce that delivers effective personalised relationship based social work that makes a positive difference to our service users. We want social workers to progress their careers in South East London. We want our social workers and those who supervise and lead them to focus on continuous improvement in their practice so that all service users benefit from the service they receive. We want to bring the work place into the university and the university into the workplace. We want to develop a centre of excellence in the provision of social work and build a community of learning that attracts students and social workers. We want our services to be flexible and adapt to the current and future needs of our diverse communities. In our pilot year (2015-2016) the South East London Teaching Partnership’s achievements included: • A scheme to develop practicing social workers as Teaching Consultants who bring their current practice experience to teaching students on the Goldsmiths Programme •Increasing the numbers of qualified practice educators so that all final year students at Goldsmiths University undertake a statutory placement in their final year of study •A scheme that brings the talents of academics into front line services providing face to face services for users and helping social work practitioners integrate theory into practice •A series of Twilight Teaching Sessions led by practitioners.
