St Athan Aerospace Park - Decommissioning of Groundwater Remediation Wells

The former MoD site at St Athan is being prepared for redevelopment as an Aerospace Business Park and Defence Technical College. The site preparation works have included remediation of groundwater below the site impacted by the previous usage of the site and this work has now been completed. The works proposed under this contract will seal the wells and boreholes used during the remediation process using sand and grout in accord with protocols agreed with Environment Agency Wales and set out in the contract specification. The number of wells and boreholes is of the order of 209. They are situated at 4 locations around the base, range in diameter from 50 to 150 mm and in depth from c. 4m to 20m. All of the wells are accessible at the ground surface either from capped boreholes or beneath manhole covers. A formal record of each abandoned well will be required for submission to Environment Agency Wales and the selected contractor will be responsible for providing this verification record in accord with an agreed pro forma.
