Strengthening Evidence for Development Impact.
Descriptions
Supporting increased evidence use by decision makers can help establish more cost-effective policies for poverty reduction and drive public sector reform. The UK has already contributed to programmes aimed at increasing evidence-informed policymaking in 12 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia through DFID's Building Capacity to Use Research Evidence (BCURE) programme. However, lessons learnt from BCURE and other interventions have also demonstrated that in order to further strengthen the use of evidence by decision-makers in developing countries, five key constraints will need to be addressed. The main outcome of SEDI will be a more systematic use of evidence by policymakers in the above mentioned regions however the selected countries may include Ghana, Uganda, Pakistan and Zambia (final countries to be confirmed). This will also contribute to the transparency of policymaking processes in these countries, highlighting where and when evidence informs decisions.
