Supply and Install Pedestrian Railings, Colwyn Bay Promenade

Conwy County Borough Council are seeking suitable contractors for the below contract:Minor works – which involve the following:-Substantial improvements have been made over recent years to improve the quality and level of protection offered by the coastal defences along the promenade in Colwyn Bay, coupled with this, environmental improvements have been made to provide high quality facilities for visitors to the area.To continue with the environmental and safety improvements along the promenade between Rhos on Sea and Old Colwyn further funding has been secured to enable procurement of high quality pedestrian railing system to replace the deteriorating railings currently on site.An assessment survey has been conducted to assess the condition of the railings over a 2.8km length with 900m being identified as requiring replacement in the short term. Due to the harsh environment the existing galvanised steel railings have a disproportionally short serviceable life in relation to the procurement and installation costs. During storm events there is frequent overtopping along sections of the promenade bringing stones of varying sizes over and hitting the railings causing significant degradation over time in addition to extensive rusting evident as a result of the marine environment.To counter this it is proposed to source a ‘polymer cast’ mild steel pedestrian railing system that is coated in a polyurethane finish which will afford additional protection to the fabric of the railings thereby increasing their serviceable life whilst greatly enhancing the aesthetic quality of the promenadeNOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at http://www.sell2wales.gov.uk/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=28611.
