The Authority is in the process of creating their own laboratory at their Police Headquarters site in Bridgend which will provide Forensic Services including the analysis of controlled drugs for South Wales and Gwent Police.To ensure that the quality of testing performed in this laboratory meets the stringent requirements of ISO 17025, the Authority has identified a ‘bench top’ quadrupole Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometer as the industry standard equipment for the identification of controlled drugs. The instrument will be used principally for the identification of controlled and unspecified medications. No toxicological analysis will be performed and no threshold for detection is specified. There shall also be a reuirement for training and annual maintenance.
