Victoria road is the only available route for HGVs and other vehicles to access the QEC Jetties. The road infrastructure has started to reach the end of its design life and this is evident when assessing the material state of the road. Service covers on this route are corroding, cracked, warped and are in some cases not load rated to BS EN 124. Temporary steel plates are placed over a number of service covers due to their deteriorating condition. This has driven the requirement to upgrade the service covers and inspection chambers within the Naval Base's HGV routes to keep in line with current standards of quality within HMNB Portsmouth.
