TitleSupply of electrochemical metal mine water pilot treatment system at FrongochDescription of the goods or services requiredNatural Resources Wales (NRW) is the largest Welsh Government Sponsored Body and is responsible for making sure that the environment and natural resources of Wales are sustainably maintained, sustainably enhanced and sustainably used, now and in the future.Geoscience and the Metal Mine teams require a pilot trial to demonstrate treatment of two discrete discharges into Frongoch Stream at Frongoch, near Pontrhydygroes. This is the location for the pilot treatment trials and is privately owned property. There is no mains power in the immediate vicinity. Please note the landowner lives on the north boundary of the site and there are two residential farm buildings within 500m of the site, to the northeast and southeast.Both discharges are circum neutral and contribute annually ~5 tonnes of zinc, 78kg of lead and 10kg of cadmium to the Frongoch Stream.Groundwater pipe Pb 3,400µg/l, Zn 410,000µg/l, Cd 657µg/l; flow 0.3m3/hr.Old culvert Pb 2,400µg/l, Zn 87,000µg/l, Cd 167µg/l; flow 4m3/hr.Geoscience and the Metal Mine teams contribute towards both NRW and Welsh Government carbon neutral policies.NRW is looking for a supplier who can supply a system that meets the following specification:- the successful operator will be required to generate sufficient power to operate their system;- the system has a small footprint and be contained within a standard 20’ shipping container;- use electrochemical methods;- incorporate iron within the electrodes;- include a lamella clarifier or equivalent;- include all necessary pipes and pumps to convey the discharge water to the container;- the precipitate produced shall be removed and disposed of appropriately;- the pilot trials are not expected to exceed 4 months;- all equipment to be delivered before 30th November 2017Siting of the temporary unit will require careful attention as this area of the site is home to Sea Campion plants and rare lichens, one of which is possibly an un-described lichen species.Delivery will be to Frongoch mine (SN 72353 74171) at the following address:Frongoch mine,Trisant,Pontrhydygroes,Ceredigion,SY23 4RLIf you would like to be included in the tender stage of this process, please email – procurement.ns@naturalresourceswales.gov.uk .Expressions of interest should be received by 09:00 Monday 9th October through Sell2Wales.
