Awarded
Supply of Tipping Bucket Rain Gauges for Met Office Land Network.
Descriptions
The Met Office maintains a network of approximately 255 automatic rain gauges distributed in land areas across the UK. Rainfall readings as reported by the tipping bucket rain gauge (TBR) network provide important data for both operational meteorology and for climatology, as well as providing (at a subset of sites) ground truth for real-time radar calibration purposes. These automatic gauges report rainfall via our Meteorological Monitoring System (MMS) at one minute intervals. The Met Office wishes to replace the current network of tipping bucket rain gauges with new instruments with an intended lifetime of 10-15 years, whilst retaining the same compatibility and functionality. The Met Office wishes to place a framework contract with a maximum of three suppliers for the supply of tipping bucket rain gauges and components. The agreement will be in place for three years with the option to extend by 12 months for a total duration of four years.
